The 2023 Youth Leadership Forum (YLF) was held June 4-8, 2023 on the Northern State University campus in Aberdeen, SD. YLF is
a five-day educational and motivational forum, which involves an intense schedule of presentations, leadership training, hands-on activities, volunteer opportunities, and recreational events. This year 42 students from across the state participated in the forum.
YLF provides an opportunity for high school students with disabilities to participate in self-determination, self-advocacy, and
leadership training. It is also an opportunity for students to receive information on supported decision-making and how to access the necessary resources to assist in this process.
Our Transition Services Liaison Project staff coordinate this forum, which is the only event of its kind in South Dakota and requires collaboration from over 25 organizations and numerous volunteers. The theme for the 2023 YLF was “Find Your Place in the Circle of Life.” The overall goal of the week was to inspire these individuals to grow personally, socially, and academically, and to fulfill their potential in their choice of career.
